It’s been an eventful year for our little family…
Hana has completed her first year of school. Although, one of the quieter achievers she has amazed us with her grasp of reading, writing and calculations not to mention the transitioning into the routine of school life. Being at Rainworth has opened up a whole community for us. We now seem to have a school friend in every street in Bardon. There has been no shortage of social invitations to playdates, birthday parties and the like. We learned how individual each families values were to our own. We soon became accustomed to Hana’s Teacher’s regime and daily greeting of the other PYS parents for morning skill building. Being part of Hana’s educational journey, we really feel that like everything she sets her mind to, it it to the highest possible degree. Which of course on the flipside means she can become very frustrated and exhausted if at first she doesn't succeed. So for me, it has been learning that my role is becoming more about guiding her to have a balanced more carefree approach while ensuring she reaches her potential.
As for our Noa, she has had a year of 3 days a week at Chatterbox. She seems to be a confident member of Ms Carmel’s junior kindy room, knowing the routine of the day. When I pick her up, she tells me to go and sign off in the room while she plays out on the deck with her friends. She has no problem socialising and seems to have hit it off with Lucinda and a few of the favourites from her Tweenies days. When we have our days off together our general routine is to drop Dad and Hana off, then head to gymbos for a workout/creche. Then meet up with Nic & Oscar for a coffee and play before heading home for a sleep. Of late though, we have been going to swimming class on Friday with Ms Bec and meeting Oscar after sleeps. Although, a very vocal, assertive child, Noa doesn’t have the same level of wilfulness of Hana at that age. However, she does possess a loud set of pipes that once she has vented, can be negotiated with.
This holidays, we have spent a lot of time together, swimming in the pool, playing at the beach and discovering new/old hot spots. Noa has really taken off with the swimming and after a term of gentle persuasion from her lovely Instructor has decided of her own accord on day 4 of our holiday to put her face in the water. No mean feat and Ms Bec will be so amazed and say, `wow Noa!’. Noa now swimming with a noodle all around the pool on her own, we are so excited for her and us to no longer have to humpty dumpty with her in class. Hana an absolute fish, doing tumble turns, diving and getting plenty of enjoyment out of the water. She has taken off with boogie boarding with Henry and has started catching waves. Actually this summer all of us enjoyed riding the waves!
Our girls seem to be in sync for most of the day, and are a constant source of energy. On this trip, Noa is able to participate in the stream of games from the cupboard at Pop's house - Monkey Bingo and the like. It's been a wonderful summer, but like all good things they must come to an end. All the more reason to appreciate them.
