Party, party, party

Today, we went to one of Hana's classmate's birthday parties held at a park in Paddington. There were dozens of wee little girls from kindy running around in the heat munching on sweet sugary treats. All I could think is what does a child of this age really get out of a party. They hardly talk to anyone and they seem totally overwhelmed with all the attention, gifts and sweets. We've concluded that it really is about the Parents, an opportunity for us to catch up. For a child, 365 days of the year we dedicate to you so on this day your birthday I say Parents celebrate Parenthood (Moet all round).
Hana and a few of the other girls decided to fill up their cups from the tap and proceeded to pour water over each other. Party dresses saturated but a nice diversion from the sweets table. It wasn't long before they were all running around in their pants.
Strip back all the frills and it's really the simple pleasures that give us the most enjoyment. Oh, and that bloody lolly bag we have to remember to take home!

Here is our Mothers Group birthday party in the park on Sunday. Much more low key than the previous days party and this time we made sure the kids wore their swimmers and the emphasis was on play rather than party food. We have had the pleasure of knowing these children and Mamas since they were around 4 weeks of age, so a Very Happy 3rd Birthday Nicholas, Olive, Chloe, Archer, Jack, Aiden, Orlando, Jessica and Hana.

I totally agree Neens. I do believe that birthdays change their meaning after you become a parent. All those stories that we hear our parents tell on our birthdays about the day we were born. Now I get it and listen. It is a wonderful day to celebrate being parents. In saying that after going to Oscar's birthday this year....the kids were having much more fun than the adults!
